Save Snapchat Memories to Your Camera Roll

There are two ways to get Memories into your camera roll. Only one handles a whole library — and either way, the date inside each file decides where it lands in your timeline.

Fix the dates before importing

Drop the mydata~….zip files from Snapchat. Each photo and video that can be matched to memories_history.json gets its capture date and location written into the file (JPEG photos and MP4/MOV videos); anything that can't be matched is kept unchanged and listed in report.csv. Nothing is uploaded. Free for up to 200 files.

Option 1: save from the app

You can select Memories in the Snapchat app and export them to your camera roll. Third-party guides say this works in batches of up to 100 at a time; Snapchat's help center does not document a limit, and whether the dates survive this way is not confirmed. It is fine for a few favourites, slow for years of Memories.

Option 2: export everything, fix, then import

  1. Request your Memories at accounts.snapchat.com → My Data with Export your Memories and Export JSON Files turned on (how to download all Snapchat Memories).
  2. Drop all mydata~….zip parts into the Snapchat Memories downloader. It writes the date taken and GPS into each matched JPEG photo and MP4/MOV video and names the files by date.
  3. Move the fixed photos and videos to your phone, or import them into your photo library on your computer (Apple Photos, Google Photos).

Because the date is now inside each file, the Memories should appear on the day they were taken — not on the day you imported them — and the ones with a location on the map, in photo apps that read EXIF and video creation dates.

Before you import

  • Export tools report that Memories in My Eyes Only are not part of the export; move them to regular Memories first if you want them.
  • Captions and stickers are separate -overlay.png files (merge Snapchat overlays). Leave the overlays/ folder out of your import if you don't want them as extra images.
  • Long videos can arrive split into 10- or 60-second segments (reported mainly for older Memories), so one video may show up as several clips.

FAQ

What is the best way to save Snapchat Memories?

For a whole library: Snapchat's My Data export (accounts.snapchat.com → My Data, with "Export your Memories" and "Export JSON Files" on), then write the dates and locations from the JSON back into the files before you import them. For a handful of Memories, saving them from the app to the camera roll is quicker.

Why do my Memories show the wrong date in my camera roll?

The camera roll sorts by the date stored inside each photo or video. Files from a Snapchat export do not reliably carry it — the real date is in memories_history.json — so they appear under the day they were downloaded. Fix the files first and they land at the right place in your timeline.

Can I fix them on my phone?

It may work for a small export or a single ZIP part, but phones are not tested or supported for full libraries. Use Chrome or Edge on a computer, then copy the fixed photos to your phone or import them into your photo library from there.

Will captions and stickers show up?

Not on the exported photo itself: Snapchat exports them as a separate overlay PNG. The tool keeps those PNGs in an overlays/ folder for now; merging is in development.
