Snapchat Memories Export Not Working: Causes and Fixes
An empty ZIP, missing Memories, files without dates, a security message — here are the problems people run into with the My Data export and what to do about each.
Drop your mydata~….zip files: the fixer shows what is in them — how many Memories, how many with dates and locations, and what is missing — before changing anything. Nothing is uploaded.
Check & fix my export →The ZIP has no photos or videos
Some older exports contained only memories_history.html / .json with a download link for each Memory. Those links expire after a few days (community sources say about 3 to 7 days), and this tool does not download them. Request a new export: current exports put the photos and videos in a memories/ folder inside the ZIP.
If you do have a new export, check the other parts: big libraries come as mydata~….zip, -1.zip, -2.zip …, and the extra parts hold the media.
The photos have no dates (or today's date)
The dates are listed in json/memories_history.json, which is included when Export JSON Files is turned on — usually in the first ZIP part. With the JSON, the Snapchat Memories date fix writes them into the matched JPEG photos and MP4/MOV videos.
Memories are missing
- Export tools report that My Eyes Only Memories are not exported. Move them to regular Memories and export again.
- Make sure the request was for All Time, not a shorter date range.
- Incomplete exports happen: in October 2026 a user reported an "All Time" export that skipped almost everything from January 2018 to August 2026 (only one photo from 2023 and a few from 2025 came through), with the same result after a second request (r/SnapchatHelp). The fixer's
report.csvlists the Memories that are in the JSON but have no file — useful evidence for Snapchat Support.
"Security restriction … after 72 hours"
Some users get this instead of an export. See Snapchat Memories security restriction (72 hours) for what is known.
The email link leads back to My Data
Users have reported clicking the "export ready" email and landing on My Data without a See exports button. We have no confirmed fix; if it persists across devices, contact Snapchat Support. Once you can download, grab all parts promptly.
Videos are cut into short pieces
Other export tools report that long videos can arrive split into 10- or 60-second segments, mainly for older Memories (roughly 2017–2021). Joining them back together is not something this tool does yet.
Some files won't open
There are reports of exported videos and photos that QuickTime and Preview on a Mac refuse to open while others from the same export work. We have not confirmed the cause; the fixer is designed to change only metadata, not the image or video data, so it is not expected to cause or repair this.
FAQ
Why is my Snapchat Memories export empty?
One common cause is an older export: some older exports contained only a list of download links (memories_history.html) instead of the photos and videos, and those links expire after a few days. Request a new export — current ones include the media. If your export has several parts, the photos may also be in the other parts.
Why does my export have no dates?
The dates are in json/memories_history.json, which is only included when "Export JSON Files" is turned on, usually in the first ZIP part. Without it, the photos and videos often show the download date.
Why are some Memories missing from my export?
Export tools report that My Eyes Only Memories are not included in the export. Beyond that, users have reported incomplete exports (one in October 2026 got almost nothing from 2018 to August 2026, even after a second request). Compare the count with the app; this tool's report.csv lists every Memory in the JSON that has no file in the export.
Snapchat says "Security restriction: Please try again from this device after 72 hours"
Users see this when requesting a Memories export. There is no confirmed workaround; wait the full 72 hours on the same device and contact Snapchat Support if it persists. More on the 72-hour security restriction page.
